President's Message

NCJW/Essex has a long, proud history in New Jersey, reaching back more than a century to 1912 when 37 women founded the Newark Section. In the 60s, that section joined with others from Irvington, North Essex, Maplewood and Upper Montclair to form the Essex County Section … what we now call NCJW/Essex. From those 37 foresighted women, we have grown to a membership of more than 3,300, the largest section in the country.
With the strength and support of our members, we accomplish wonderful things in our community and our state. In the last few months alone, we’ve helped so many in need. Our Center for Women serves as a resource for women in transition, helping them with life skills, independence, self-esteem and career opportunities. As a state-designated Displaced Homemaker site, we help women learn the skills they need to enter or re-enter the workforce – another example of how NCJW and NJ are working together!
Of course we couldn’t accomplish all that we do without the unsurpassed dedication of so many volunteers, committed to making New Jersey a better place for women, children and families. As you click through our website, we hope you will find ways to participate and get involved.
