We learn about the short life of an extremely talented African-American who grew up outside Newark, the son of a devoted, single woman, and a drug-dealing father imprisoned for murder. Robert graduated from Yale and wound up back on the streets of Newark, because of circumstances and the dual nature of his existence.
Jeff Hobbs, Robert’s roommate, chronicles the obstacles he was unable to overcome, the tragedy of the dichotomy of lashing cultures, urban poverty, drugs, and Ivy League privilege. It is a searing portrait of an unforgettable life of a brilliant young man.
