The Career Closet of NCJW/Essex, located in Livingston, NJ, provides needed interview and career-appropriate clothing to women who are returning to the workforce or starting work for the first time. Clients are referred by the NCJW/Essex Center for Women and other social service agencies in the Essex County area that are dedicated to helping women and families.
Many women do not have what they need to present themselves in a professional manner to prospective employers. The Career Closet is our way of ensuring that a woman will not have to choose between feeding her family and purchasing suitable clothing.
Please donate women’s attire that is:
New or like-new, Interview-appropriate, Any Size: Petite 0-5X, In style (not dated), In season, Ready to wear (no stains, tears, or pulls)
Please no jeans or undergarments.
We particularly need these items:
• Women’s business suits (skirt or pants with jackets)
• Work appropriate skirts, slacks, blouses and shells
• Winter Coats
• Work appropriate shoes, new or like-new
• Nylon knee-highs, new in original package (only in shades brown and black)
• High-demand items include: Large size clothing and shoes
Sorry, we do not accept: Active wear, Denim, Formal wear
Career Closet clients are assisted by personal shoppers who help select clothing suitable for that all-important job interview or to start a new job with confidence. The Career Closet is run by trained volunteers on an appointment-only basis. The Career Closet is open for clients by appointment ONLY and requires a signed voucher. Clients must be referred by a social service agency or a Center for Women Case Manager.
Appointments must be scheduled in advance.
If you cannot make it to your appointment, please contact the NCJW/Essex Center for Women to cancel or reschedule.
