Section News

NCJW/Essex is a busy place. Along with the programs, volunteer opportunities and advocacy, initiatives to strengthen our foundation are vital to our success. Several examples are below:

REDI

The REDI (Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) Committee concluded its third year and is seeing a ripple effect throughout the Section from its ongoing work. Like so many organizations, NCJW/Essex grapples with equity for all as a necessary topic. The REDI Committee continues to work with the Section Board, Executive Committee and each department looking carefully at our programs, services, and community partners to ensure we are being equitable and inclusive in everything
we do. The Committee sponsored a debriefing and discussion of the movie Selma dealing with the Voting Rights Act of 1964 and tying it to today’s issues aligned with our ongoing work getting out the vote.

BOARD DEVELOPMENT

The Section Board spent significant time this year exploring what is required of
a non-profit board to be the most effective and valuable to the organization it
leads. Interactive sessions, meaningful conversations and a commitment to being the best now and into the future drove this work, which will continue into our
next fiscal year.

PROFESSIONAL STAFF

The professional staff saw many changes during the year, with the addition of a full-time Director of Development and a full-time Director of Communications, a new Office Manager and two new managers at the Center for Women. Together with their Executive Committee partners, the entire team looks forward to an exciting and productive year ahead.
